What an HSBC statement carries

How we check an HSBC statement is right
HSBC prints an opening balance, a closing balance and totals for payments in and out. Those are the anchors: the transactions we extracted must foot to them. Where a statement also carries a running balance per row, we use the stronger check instead and verify every adjacent pair. Either way the arithmetic has to close, and a file that does not reconcile is flagged rather than quietly handed to you. We only treat a figure as an anchor if it actually appears in the PDF.

Things worth knowing
- HSBC only produces a statement for a month if there were transactions that month, or the account was overdrawn. A missing month is usually a quiet month, not a missing document.
